PhD Studentship in HIV Social Behaviour Science

The Sub-Saharan Africa Network for TB/HIV research excellence (SANTHE) in collaboration with the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi offers PhD-training in HIV Behaviour Science to a student who is interested in advancing knowledge on health facility-based acute HIV infection screening,

Within ongoing work on acute HIV infection screening at 6 health facilities in coastal Kenya (an NIH-funded proof-of-concept trial to detect HIV infection at care seeking and in patients’ partners), the candidate will conduct qualitative research to assess the potential to scale up point-of-care RNA-testing, partner notification, uptake of immediate treatment and PrEP.

Under supervision of the PIs- and co-I, Drs. Susan Graham and Eduard Sanders, and Elise van der Elst, the candidate will conduct qualitative analysis of a novel strategy to reduce ongoing HIV transmission among adult patients seeking care for symptoms at health facilities in Coastal Kenya and among their sexual partners.
The studentship is for 36 months, and expects the candidate to take initial work forward. The studentship will cover research costs, travel costs, medical insurance and a monthly stipend.

Applicants must be a MPH/MSc-holder, with at least two years post-graduate qualitative research experience, with at least one first author publication. He/she should be sensitive to the importance of community engagement and an advocate for promoting health facility-based HIV testing strategies
